About Me
Welcome to my blog! My name is Kaitlyn Stermer, Kaitie for short. I am currently enrolled at Grand Valley State University, and have been accepted into Grand Valley's College of Education. I will be embarking on my teaching journey beginning in the Fall at White Pines Intermediate School in Grand Haven Michigan, in a cognitive impairment room, and XXI classroom. I am seeking my special education teaching degree. When I am not attending Grand Valley, I reside in small town U.S.A, Lawton Michigan. I have grown up on a one hundred acre farm, and participated in 4-H for eight years. During those eight years I showed dairy feeder calves, and full size steers at my county fair. I am a huge Detroit Tigers, and Lions fan. The Detroit Tigers, are very important to me, but recently my family has gained a new member who is very dear to my heart. Marley is an eight week old chocolate lab.
I have had the opportunity to volunteer and work with children in a variety of situations. I have tutored second grade students at Allendale Public Schools, taught a fifth grade lesson at Jenison Public Schools, worked a daycare in my hometown, and taught summer school for third graders at Sam Adams Elementary in Cassopolis Michigan. These experiences with children have exposed me to a variety of uses of technology in the classroom. Each individual experience I have witnessed smart boards being implemented into the classroom, electronic testing, iPads, and blogs. As mentioned in class on the first day I don't believe that every use of technology was an enhancement but sometimes simply just a replacement. When I become a teacher, and have control of my personal classroom, I plan on using technology as an enhancement in my classroom. In this day of age, I don't think that we as educators can physically avoid technology in our classroom. It is imperative that our children are exposed to technology, that not only replaces their current learning but as I have said before, enhances it.
